It is the season for travel, and packing for a trip, be it your bucket list trip, business or destination occasion, nobody relishes the packing. If you do, please let me know because even I the super packer do not enjoy the angst of WHAT TO TAKE. Allow me to suggest this however… pick a color scheme, perhaps red, black and white, for example. This will allow you to limit the shoes required and basically have every garment pair with every garment. It is labelled “capsule dressing” and makes even the multi-climate trips easier to wardrobe.

Instead of talking about the whole wardrobe, I want to share my thoughts on the travel outfit. First of all, always dress A) for comfort and B) for first class. You just never know when an upgrade to business or first might drop in your lap. By dressing for it, you are already putting the energy out there that you deserve an upgrade, seriously setting the intention to receive.

When selecting your travel outfit, it is best to consider the heaviest pieces first. The shoes or boots, jacket, sweater etc. That way, your suitcase weight is reduced because they don’t weigh you – oh imagine if they did. Next consider the fabric. You want something that is comfortable, as already mentioned, and that upon debarkation doesn’t look like you slept in it, even if you did. There are so many amazing fabrics available. To test their wrinkle resistance, just grab a corner and scrunch it up in your fist. If upon release it falls smooth, you are set.

Last month, I wrote about my “debacle” in flying to Boston and then onto Cape Cod. Turns out my coming and going travel wear choices served me well. Once I arrived at Logan airport after my red eye flight, I was supposed to have been met by a friend to travel up to Cape Cod. It was chilly and turns out a gravel truck turned over on the highway, so she had to turn back, leaving me to wait even longer outside to navigate the buses to my destination. Boy, was I glad I brought my gloves. So, dressing with the destination top of mind, in my color palette, was a godsend.

Guess what! Coming home was yet another experience. You see I did some shopping while I was there, no sales tax on clothes – it’s like a buy 2 get one free almost – kinda deal. Honestly the thrifting and boutiques are lovely so the economy gets a little boost every time I am there. Question is how do I get these new loves into my jammed suitcase and still look first class ready. Shifted my shoes and any heavy items into my carry-on bag and phew made it through weight check.

Much to my delight there was my name, the only one on the upgrade list. Could it be, would they pick me, did dressing for the upgrade work? It sure did. Complimentary cocktails, heated nuts, a choice of dinner options, super headsets, a pillow, blanket and LEG ROOM. Heavenly and spoiled, coach may not be an option ever again. Happy Travels!
