The tighter the weave of a fabric is, the better the drape of the garment.

The number one prerequisite to building a high-caliber wardrobe is being able to recognize a quality garment when we see one. It is really important to be able to tell the difference between a durable, well-crafted piece and one that looks pretty on the hanger but won’t last more than half of one season in use. The properties that distinguish high quality garments from low-quality ones are pretty easy to recognize, when you know what to look for and at.

There are many different fabrics to choose from cotton, linen, wool, denim, leather, silk and synthetics.  The choice is based upon what the garment will be worn for. One wouldn’t wear silk necessarily to a baseball game or sturdy cotton to a gala.

Then there are the finer points of a garment, seams, finishing, lining and details like buttons, zippers and pockets.  All elements to take into consideration before plunking down your hard earned dollars and even more importantly impacting your image. If your clothes are not congruent with who you are and how you want to be see it is a shot in the foot that can last a very very long time. Perhaps forever, especially if it is a first impression

What distinguishes high-quality from low-quality are the extra steps taken to make sure a garment not only looks the part now, but will continue to do so after multiple wears and washes.  That it feels comfortable on the skin and is well fitted (this is also where your BFF the Tailor comes into play). All of the ‘extras’ take time and money. That’s why it’s so easy to find attractive pieces at budget stores that end up falling apart after a week: To cut costs the manufacturer chose to focus on making the garment look good on the hanger instead of its quality.  Pretty much every shopper makes a purchasing decision based on what a garment looks like (remember we are visual creatures), only a few of us will take the time to assess the quality of tailoring elements when we spot a garment we admire. In fact the price tag is typically the first place we go to make the buying decision versus the fabric content and the seam finishes!

Be a discerning shopper, do a little extra checking before selecting what you will wrap yourself in. Remember you are special; you deserve to always look and feel your best.

More is always More when it comes to QUALITY.
