If you know me, have worked with me or even seen me around town, you’ll probably recognize that I love a column of color. What is a column of color?  It’s when you wear all one color, head to toe, basically giving you a beautiful, unbroken line of visibility from head to toe and toe to head. Column of color can be any color, varying by the season, depending on your complexion, based on what you’re doing or contingent  on your mood, because of course, Color has a big impact on mood. Column of color has long been at the sophisticated option for high fashion. Chanel must come to mind. This season, the color is latte, yes, like a coffee latte, dark chocolate brown mixed with frothy milk, to make this beautiful creamy tone. Just enough of each shade to be neutral, yet potent for almost any complexion. I typically cannot wear browns, and especially since I let my hair go silver, brown is not really a very good complement for my coloring; however, I can wear a latte.

Playing with this concept column of color a little bit longer because you can see it in all aspects of nature… just think of a tall tree. The tree trunk is a column of color.  Think of a road ahead with no end in sight. It’s undulating through the desert or the forest or even on the side of a mountain. That too is a column of color. I believe it occurs in nature as much as it does because it has a unifying, calming effect on all who observe, immerse, and/or fly above.

The fashion icons this season are all over the column of color, as it had been in the history of the fashion runway. Why? Because it gives the models a longer and even leaner look while increasing the visual impact of the designer’s vision. Even the prints that are being utilized have a subtlety to them. They’re not quite as bold and distracting, but rather soothing and appealing. Could it be a sign of our times to be able to enjoy, just for the sake of enjoying, rather than having to do something with it?

Uniforms come to mind when I think column of color. Of course, the first one that may pop into mind is a military uniform, but there are many other uniforms.  If you think of the garb of monks in the Himalayas, all simple columns of color with only a rope tie for adornment. Think of the scouting clubs, school uniforms, even sport team uniforms. Most are columns of color and are unifiers of the team.

The latte palette I mentioned above is very soothing. I find it to be grounding without being too earthy.  It’s a clean, dirt-like sand. Yes, latte reminds me of certain beaches where the color is that of the sand.   That color, of course, comes from ground up shells and whatever else the ocean has churned up. But if you look at a beach horizontally, as well as the ocean, that too is a column of color. So, dressing in a column of color is, in fact, quite aligned with nature.

Enjoy your Latte in Style and have FUN!

P.S.  I was out to dinner tonight, and three gals sat at the table next to me in, you guessed it, Latte!! There are no coincidences… only perfect alignment.
