Even in California, it gets chilly enough to want to bundle up. This from a transplanted NY City gal, who braved the walk from the old World Trade Center down to Water Street in the coldest, windiest and snowiest of days. Some days the ice on the sidewalk was forming so quickly that the buildings put up rope stringers so we could, I kid you not, pull ourselves up the street.

Happily, we live in a much more agreeable climate, yet when our bodies become acclimated, we too get Cold. Faux Fur has become a go to fabric for outer garments, scarves, trim and linings to provide us the added warmth and fashion we desire.

Faux fur was first introduced in 1929, and originally made from alpaca hair. By the 1940s, however, the quality of fake furs had vastly improved thanks to advances in textile manufacturing technology. In the 1950s, acrylic polymers replaced alpaca hair to create the first fully synthetic fur coats. Emphasis on synthetic since polyester when blended with modacrylic and acrylic fibers, results in a pile fabric that simulates real animal fur.

But it’s not.

Main difference, faux fur being a plastic will never decompose, whereas animal fur will. See footnote below***** Gave me pause.

I happen to adore Faux Fur. The photo is from my ever growing “Collection”. Faux Fur is luxurious and as mentioned, warm. The luxury part is interesting since all the inquiries I made at the varying price points are all made from the same 100% polyester ingredients. Yet, a YSL jacket is $8700, an ALO is $348 and a great looking jacket sitting in my cart is $29.48 from TEMU. Hmmmmm, food for thought?

Oh, almost forgot to mention the delightful variety of animal prints, color blocking and high low tones available in Faux Fur, making it very Fun Fur.

Faux fur is a wonderful accessory for any wardrobe, regardless of your age. Some of the colors are amazingly vibrant and unique, adding that spectacular pop of color to any outfit, and of course, upscaling jeans and tee shirt in a nano second. Talk about day to night wear.

Fashion and Function…gotta love it.

Be well, Be Stylish and Be Happy as you Glow into 2024!
