Ok you have been putting this off long enough, you know what I’m talking about, you keep saying you will do it, you need to do it, you don’t want to do it, can’t someone do it for you (yes of course – Me) but let’s just do it. In this article I am going to make it easy for you to wage a battle with your closet and come out on top without any scars at all. Ready? Of course you are think about how fabulous it is going to be when you can open your closet without having to duck, cover your eyes or squeeze through a small opening to get in. Imagine every single item being wearable, yes wearable as in it fits, it’s clean, it’s tailored, it’s organized and you look forward to wearing it because you LOVE IT. Because, when you love yourself it makes it ever so easy to love those around you. Love does and will change the dynamics of family, community and the world. So go forth and start by loving your closet.
All in all done! Ready Set Here we go…..make PEACE with your closet
STEP 1 – Don On Your Battle Gear
- Hanging Clothes Rack
- Large Black Garbage Bags
- A Full Length Mirror in a well-lit area
- Felt Hangers in a favorite color
- Music, Glass of Wine, Bobbie
STEP 2 – Prepare for Battle
- Empty your closet – hang everything – DO NOT PILE CLOTHES ON YOUR BED!!! – I do not care what Marie Kondo says. It makes the task daunting and disables you from doing it in phases. Use a Salesman Rolling Rack; they have them at Bed Bath and Beyond and many other outlets. That way everything is hung, making it easier to see, swap hangers, organize and rehang in the closet. TRUST ME on this one.
- Go through the hanging garments – Either “Love it” or “Leave it”
- Place “leave it” garments in the black bag(s)
- Black so you can’t see through and second-guess yourself!
- No Dumpster Diving
- Garments, which have made the first cut – try on – yep every item!
- If it is truly “Love It”, does it need tailoring (the master trick for looking fabulous), does it need laundering, is it missing buttons or hooks?
- When you look in the mirror do you love what you see?
- In the end Less is Truly More
STEP 3 – Victory: The Peace Treaty
- Hang all “Love it’s” on felt hangers – pick a fun color and stick with it
- Place back into closet by category grouped by color – pants, shirts, dresses etc.
- Items, which need cleaning or tailoring, place in the car or at the least out of your closet and bedroom
- Stand back and admire your work; you have begun to make peace with your closet Ahhhhhhh
