The skinny jeans debate is over. Here’s why you should just wear what you want!!
Millennials, Gen Zs and Boomers have a lot in common, so we need to stop pitting ourselves against each other. Especially when it comes to Fashion which by its very definition represents change and sometimes that change takes us right back to where we started. Many of us – Boomers – have children and some even Grand children who harken back to the styles of the 80’s and 90’s or earlier. They raid our closets and resale shops, check out a Crossroads who specialize in “Street Wear” it is always packed with representatives of all Gens “sleeving” the racks.
I digress, back to skinny jeans.
What body type looks good in skinny jeans?
Skinny jeans are best for these body types:
All (yes, all!). So, no need to get hostile or get into a great debate as to whether they are in or out of style. It all comes down to color and fit: pear and hourglass shapes look best in dark wash skinny jeans, while apple and athletic shapes can try lighter washes. Easy Peasy yes and no. It still comes down to style, what you pair the jeans with, the accessories you choose, shoes etc etc etc. Are they torn up – My current favorite surprisingly. Being that my style is Classic with an edge the ripped up jeans take me to the very edge of my edge. But then I pair them with a classic white shirt, some beautiful jewelry and some drop dead ankle boots tapping into the coastal cow girl chic look.
Seriously !!! Dressing needs to be fun J How many times do I have to say it? If it isn’t let’s make it fun. Do they feel good on? Do you like what you see in the mirror? NO false humility allowed – if you are Hot own it – and if you aren’t let’s heat it up. It is your god given right to feel good about yourself.
Jeans are here to stay they are the staple garment(s) in everyone’s wardrobe. How many times have I heard my clients say I can wear that with jeans when trying to decide if a top is a keeper or goer. Skinny, Straight, Boot Cut, Baggie, Cropped, Boyfriend ………. Your call they can all work for you. The biggest fit concern is the waistline cut and then the combination of the high, low, hip hugger with the correct leg to balance the style. The same rules of thumb apply baggie bottoms work best with snugger tops and skinny bottoms work best with flowing loose tops. Of course, based on your basic style instincts anything goes.
Enjoy flexing your style and have FUN!
